HOUSEHOLD SAFETY AND PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE TIPS

How to Avoid Clogging of Drainage and Sewage Systems inside your House?

Never put toilet paper, sanitary napkins or other insoluble materials, and retrieve soap accidentally dropped, into the water closet/toilet bowl(WC/TB). The WC/TB is not designed to serve as a garbage chute.

Do not remove the strainer of the sink or floor drain inside teh bathroom. Instead, remove the discarded food particles and left-overs that settle on the strainer and put them into a garbage container. In case of clogging of the sink, unscrew the plug at the bottom of the P-Trap pipe installed along the drain piper right under the sink or lavatory and remove the waste materials that accumulated inside the P-Trap pipe. The purpose of the P-Trap is to catch and prevent the waste materials from going through the drainage pipe installed underground. It is sometimes called water seal to prevent carbon dioxide or any unpleasant odor coming out from the pipe or sewage system.

In case of clogging of the floor drain or of the drainage system, call for the services of a qualified plumber to do the job.

Water leaks inside the water tank installed at the wall on top of the other end of the WC is not uncommon. When you hear hissing sound inside the water tank of the WC, or if the WC does not flush because there is no water inside the tank, or if water flows continously inside the WC, it means that the float valve mechanism or the rubber cap that automatically stops the water overflow is not working properly, sometimes cause by sudden flushing of the lever or push button type tank. Repair must be done immediately to prevent the loss of a big volume of water if left unattended.

Check the monthly water bill as you receive. In case of an abnormal and sudden increase in water consumption, it is likely that there is an unseen leak in the water supply system or pipes inside the house. In such a case, close all the faucets inside the house and take a look at the water meter. If the dial of the water meter rotates continously even if all the faucets are already closed, then it is an indication that there is a leak in the water system.

Before and after the onset of the rainy season, remove any debris along the roof gutters as it may cause the clogging of the downspouts and roof leaders.
Mop dry the wet floor tiles, especially the bathroom floor tiles made more slippery by a soapy water or by wet soap dropped on the door.
Termite Control

Termite infestation sometimes may be unavoidable. Although it is a standard practice of Citihomes/Goodhaven to treat the immediate surroundings of the house during construction of the unit before it is turned-over to the owner, it is strongly recommended that the treatment should be repeated periodically every six(6) months when the previous anti-termite treatment had already expired, at the expense of the owner.
