Avoiding Electrical Hazards

Be watchful agains overheating of eletrical wires or cables. OVERHEATED WIRES AND CABLES are common causes of fires.

Causes of Wire Overheating

Loose plugs connected into convenience outlets (CO's)due to poor quality of the CO or through constant use in the course of time, causes electrical friction resulting in overheating

Use of "octopus" extension cords simultaneously plugged with several appliances may result in overheating as the size of the cord may not be appropriate for the required electric load.

Do not plug into CO's non-househould eletric motors or machines. The CO's in your house are only designed for household appliances and electric motors like hair dryers and eletric fans. Use of household CO's to connect to non-household eletrical motors or eletrical wires or cables. While your eletric range heavy electric load than ordinary CO's, it is however provided with appropriate size of electric wire.

Your house is installed with a circuit automatic cut-off panel board, in the form of a circuit breakers. Whatever it is, remember that you must not replace the circuit breaker or fuse with a lower or higher amperage than what is indicated or printed beside the row of circuit breaker or fuses. The electrician must have installed the correct amperage of the circuit breakers of fuses appropriate to the appliance or electric motor, or section of the house to which the circuit breaker of fuse to become busted more often. A high amperage of circuit of fuse, on the other hand, is more dangerous as it may not cut-off the current in case of short circuit situations and therefore may cause fire. DO NOT REPLACE the busted fuse or circuit breaker with an electric wire as it may not circuit breaker to restore the power when it automatically cuts-off the current as it there could be a short circuit somewhere in the electical system. Have it checked by a qualified electrician, instead..

Switch-off appliances when not in use. Appliances may overheat when left unattended for extended hours.

Make sure innocent children do not insert keys or other forms of metal into CO's plug or unplug electrical cords. 110volt CO's should always have a cover indicated as 110v

Avoiding Fire Hazards

Do not store highly combustible chemicals like gasoline near CO's plugging or unplugging cords into or from CO's produces sparks and may ignite the fumes escaping into the air.

Do not turn on flourescent lamps or cause sparks or ignite an open flame in case there is any leak from LPG tank in an enclosed area. It will ignite the flammable fumes that had escaped into the air. The starter of the flourescent lamp sparks when switched on.

Do not keep lighted candle, lamps, or stove with open flame unattended. Place them in a safe place away from flammable materials like.

Always close the LPG tank or unplug the electric stove, flat iron or washing machine after use.

Maintain at least one unit of fire extinguisher at the kithen area whre it is most prone to fire. A fire extinguisher has an expiry date. Read the label on the fire extinguisher tank and call the manufacturer to refill the unit when necessary.

Provision for a fire escape at least one of the windows or grilles for every floor leading to a ladder to the ground floor at the most strategic location of the floor for easy exit in case of fire. It the fire escape is provided with a lock, keep the key in conspicuous location inside the house where it is easy to find near exit in case of fire.

The foregoing tips are preventive control measures. The ultimate security against damage or loss due to fire is to secure an insurance coverage on your house. Citihomes/Goodhaven-built houses are usually covered with fire insurance at onwer's expense.

What to do in case of emergency situations?

In case of short circuit of electric current, immediately switch-off the main switch or the main circuit breaker of the panel board of fuse box. With the circuit breaker, it will automatically cut-off the affected branch circuit only when there is a possible short circuit of the electric current, while the other circuits of the entire electrical system still not affected. Your house was equipped with this kind of electrical system.

In case there is flooding of the entire ground floor due to rains, also switch-off the main switch of the circuit breaker of fuse box as mentioned above to avoid short circuits of any exposed wires installed underground or water seeping into the CO's and conduits as the flood water rises.

Keep a list of important telephone numbers of the police, fire station and barangay hall near your telephone unit for easy dialing in case of emergencies, but DO NOT PANIC.

For any electrical, drainage or water supply defects, please feel free to call Citihomes or Goodhaven at any time for any assistance that our maintenance service crew may be able to extend. (subject to service charge)
